About the trail

After a successful partnership on two previous art trails, Hares About Town and Herd In The City, Havens Hospices are delighted to work with Wild in Art again to deliver our third extraordinary public art trail and cultural event throughout the city of Southend-on-Sea for 2025.

For over seven weeks from July 2025, Southend-on-Sea will be brought to life by a huddle of beautiful painted penguins and baby penguins.

Don’t get in a muddle, follow the huddle.

Each unique, individually designed, penguin and baby penguin will be part of our spectacular outdoor art trail. The large penguins, each sponsored by a business, will then be auctioned off to raise vital funds for Havens Hospices’ specialist palliative care.

The art trail is completely free to follow and gives you the chance to become a tourist in your own city. You’ll be able to support Havens Hospices by purchasing a map, downloading our app or getting involved in our fundraising event and activities which will be announced once the trail begins in July 2025.

Why a penguin?

Penguins are caring and compassionate by nature, the perfect symbol of Havens Hospices’ values and Care Teams who work tirelessly to make every day count for every patient and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Just like a huddle of penguins, we offer a calm and friendly space where patients and their families can receive the support they need throughout their life’s journey
